Data Managers at Data Centre World got to know ICTFOOTPRINT.eu

Posted by r.meneses

Data Centre World took place on 29th and 30th November, in Paris (France), gathering together a qualified audience from the data management sector interested in products and solutions to satisfy their needs for energy efficiency, power, cooling, among other things.

ICTFOOTPRINT.eu contributed to the event with a 30min speaking session to present how ICT organisations, from different disciplines interested in energy efficiency and data centres of the future, can reduce their ICT & environmental carbon footprint.

The role of ICT Standards for sustainable data centres

Today, there are several ICT carbon and energy footprint standards that can be used to assess ICT goods, services, and organisations, addressing especially the needs for interconnection and interoperability while ensuring safety, reliability and environmental care.

ICTFOOTPRINT.eu has defined the “Map of ICT Standards” to present in a single place the most relevant standards and their correspondent area of operability, which can help professionals to easily identify the most pertinent ones for data centres, in this case. The map has a total of 18 factsheets, available for download, which provide further information about how to measure ICT carbon footprints using these standards.

An online marketplace for a more sustainable Data Centres sector

Data Centres professionals showed interest in the ICTFOOTPRINT.eu free online marketplace, where they can join to become “sellers” and promote their sustainable data centre services. The marketplace is also a unique opportunity for “buyers” to find sustainable ICT solutions organised in 6 categories, as illustrated in the image below.

Insights and training to make data centres more sustainable

Success stories of implementation or usage of low-carbon footprint solutions in ICT are the mean to demonstrate what are the benefits of energy efficiency, including generating cost savings in ICT. Data Centre professionals can now share their success stories on ICTFOOTPRINT.eu and read as well how their peers have achieved low carbon footprint results.
