Data Center Maturity Model

Data Center Maturity Model

The Green Grid has developed the Data Center Maturity Model (DCMM) and supporting white paper  to outline capability descriptors by area such that users can benchmark their current performance, determine their levels of maturity, and identify the ongoing steps and innovations necessary to achieve greater energy efficiency and sustainability, both today and into the future.  The maturity model touches upon every aspect of the data center including power, cooling, compute, storage and network. The levels of the model outline current best practices and a 5-year roadmap for the industry.

The Data Center Maturity Model is a set of guidelines and methods which aim at providing goals and direction for improving energy efficiency and sustainability upon the major components of the data centre: power, cooling, compute, storage and network. The white paper ranges the data centre industry based on various maturity levels and includes capability descriptions by data centre area, current best practices and a five-year roadmap for the industry. The DCMM shows the relative steps that data centres can take to enhance their energy efficiency through a long-term IT strategy based on collaboration, innovation and change.

Maintenance updates of the DCMM were completed in 2015 by a team of industry experts. The refreshed model can be accessed in full or in part through the links included on this page. A complete revision of the model will be completed in 2016.
